Introducing Beck

After months of not knowing what I was carrying around in my womb, we finally got to meet our baby boy! Beck Monroe Terry was born Aug 11th, 2009 at 6:13am. He weighed 7 lbs 10 oz, was 20 inches long and had a full head of hair. He was delivered at Timpanogos Hospital in Orem.

And here's how it all went down....Monday night around 2am I started having some good contractions so I awakened Jake and told him if he wanted to shower before we left, now was the time. He gave his mom the wake up call and she headed over while we packed a bag. We got out the door around 3am and made it half a mile up the road before we realized we left our bag with camera and all sitting on the front porch. So we flipped around, grabbed the bag and were back on our way. By this point my contractions were pretty strong. I rode in the fetal position most of the way to the hospital. When we arrived it was 3:30am. After checking me out, they admitted us and sent us to our room to wait for an epidural. It took an eternity! I finally got one at 5:40am after I was fully dilated and ready to push.
The Doctor showed up at 6am, put on his gloves and took a seat. Thirteen minutes and 6 pushes later, out came our little boy. It was awesome not knowing the gender up until then. Needless to say we were thrilled! We hadn't fully decided on a name yet so he was Baby Boy Terry until the following day.
We're all home now and doing great. Beck is such a sweetie and the perfect addition to the family! And on a side note, I'm excited that I can actually see my toes again :)

I'm so proud of the twins, Heather & Heidi, I had to let you know...they just got their first order into Nordstrom last weekend! Nordstrom ordered True Birds for EVERY store in the nation, which is rare and incredible for a first time vendor. Check out the two lovely styles below that are in the stores, they are fabulous and a perfect addition to your fall/winter wardrobe!! Hope you have time to pop into your closest store and pick some up and/or to give them some theatrical excitement (luckily we all know how to do that very well!) to the sales associates and customers to get the line sold out so they'll continue to pick up more future orders of True Birds!

They are generally located on the main floor by sunglasses/jewelry/purses.

Grover Rocks!

Another great time in Grover! Thanks to G&G Hale for finding such an ideal place and building a rockin' Ranch! The Phil & Barbara's are too big for sleeping indoors so Jenny & Mike and Chad and I took over the deck out back and it was AWESOME! Perfect cold temps for sleeping, great night music and lovely lights above. Totally preferred it.

Mike Hale had a purty pic of the Pleasant Creek Falls near Lower Bounds so Chad and he decided to hunt them out and they found them. They were so great. Not as cold as Calf creek and fun to play in. These are located off the Lower Bounds Campground drive to a pull-off. Then use bikes or 4-wheelers to go down the trail 3 miles to the falls. Nice sandy road with some rocks, easily handled on quads.
We also had a fabulous 15 Second Talent talent night...so funny! We hiked to Hickman Bridge and Cassidy Arch followed by the awesome Waterfall...warmer than ever. Exercise each morning on the back lawn with Yoga, Pilates and Kukoa dance and every night was filled with a variety of games from Killer Bunnies to Speed Scrabble. Too Much Fun!

This fun week was followed up with a visit to Ben and Rebekah to see them as Raul and Meg Giry in Phantom. We've seen Phantom 3 times and this was so superior to the others. Rebekah was wonderful at dancing and her voice is lovely. and Ben! What a voice. So rich and emotional. WE LOVED IT!! All of the family needs to see it. It was a wonderful experience....so go...right now!

Saturday was the 3rd Annual Hale Summer Party in Huntsville. It was a beautiful day and so great to see family who we see less and less often these days. Thanks, Wendy and Chad for hosting it at your home. We missed those who weren't able to be there - hope to see you next year!

Hi Hales,

I have two bits of information for you. First, I just wanted you to know that my son Jack was just diagnosed with Autism. It will be a long and hard road, but his happy smile is what keeps us going every day. We have started him in early intervention and have his name on several lists for autistic pre-schools. If any of you have any information or "people" we could talk to regarding it, please pass it on. We are new at this and have a lifetime of learning ahead of us. We also know that the Lord sent him to us for a reason. We feel blessed, and humbled, that He would trust us with this obligation.

Secondly, I have officially started the "Hale's Angels" book. It will mostly be photos, but I would love some comments on quotes or sayings of Grandma and Grandpa Hale. I know you all have favorite lines from plays or sayings they used to say.

Home Sweet Home

Ash is home from the hospital today! After two wonderful blessings from Jack and Ryan, she is home today. She is still recovering from the tonsilectomy and it will be weeks before she feels better from that. But, the pneumonia is healing! What a blessing. We are grateful to this amazing family and your thoughts and prayers.

Just FYI,

Ashley has been in the ICU since Friday recovering from pneumonia after her tonsilectomy. She is not recovering well. The pheumonia is in both lungs and they can't seem to get the infection out. They are going to try a new antibiotic today and hope that it will clear it out. Her throat is slowly healing. Please pray for her recovery and let's get her home!

PS - I'm still working on the slides we found at the ranch. Inch by inch, they are coming together!

Victoria and Mike are happy to introduce our new little guy, Charlie.

Charles Hale Malmborg was born on February 28th, 22 inches long and weighing a whopping 9 lbs 10 ounces. (That's almost 3 lbs more than our last baby. No wonder I was so ornery!) He's doing fine, mom's doing fine. And as soon as everyone else in the house stops being sick, we'll all be fine!

Charlie is a very sweet and patient baby. We're thrilled to have him here!

My three little ones

Berklee was released from the NICU Monday night and spent the night with us in the hospital. They discharged her yesterday and we were able to come home as a family of five. McKenna and Brock came to the hospital to get their baby sister. It was Brock's first time he had seen and met his little sister. Kenna can't get enough of her.

Her final diagnoses was Pneumothorax on her left lung, Pulmonary hypertension, Pneumonia was suspected, Physiologic jaundice, and persisting respiratory distress. She spent 13 day in the NICU, 12 in the critical level 3 nursery and 1 day in level 2.

She was real sick and is doing amazing now. Thank you for all your prayers and support. She still has a ways to go to get back her strength, but is closer everyday!

Yesterday they took Berklee off the conventional ventilator, took out the tube in her throat, put her on a cannula and took out one of her lines in her belly. She looks great and sounds great now that she can cry. Emily has been able to hold her for the last couple of days and Dusty got to hold her today. It makes it feel real to us that she is here and we actually have her now.Today they took out the last tube in her belly button and put in an IV for her last doses of antibiotics which should be done by noon Thursday. She still has a ways to go but we hope that by Valentines day she will be home. Today Emily tried to nurse her for the first time. Berklee still has a feeding tube down her throat and needs to learn how to eat. They said it can take up to a week before she will start nursing. As soon as she was put on Emily chest, she feel asleep and all her oxygen level went up, heart rate and breathes per minute went down, which are all great.McKenna got to see Berklee for the first time today. She is so excited and cries each time we leave her at home. McKenna loves Berklee so much and loved touching and holding her. She wanted to take her home.

We want to say thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers for our family and especially for Berklee. We have felt the strength from all of them and they have carried us through. We know how blessed we are to have such great families and friends that love and support us.

Sweet Berklee
First time I got to kiss her, on her leg before I was discharged Sunday night

Berklee and all that hair. She has ear muff on to help with the sound.

Berklee does not have any heart problems. All her problems are with her lungs. She still thinks she is in the womb and hasn't closed all the holes in her lungs so she can breath oxygen and not liquid. The Doctors aren't sure if she has pneumonia or another type of infection, so they are treating her with meds. There is no surgery in her future and are grateful for that. This morning they moved her off the high frequency ventilator and put her on a conventional ventilator. She is doing well on the new ventilator.They are slowing decreasing her morphine and trying to keep her awake. When she is awake, she tries to pull her tubes out of her throat. The Doctor said this morning if she pulls her tubes out, she must really want them out and that he will leave them out. With the new machine, she is required to take 20 breaths per minute and she is taking 60bpm. We are happy with her progress. She is looking good. She is still on the boarder for a transfusion, but are hoping she will not need it. We are hoping she will be home in a couple of weeks. Thanks for all your prayers we know they are working.

Prayers for Berklee

Berklee Ella was born to Emily and Dusty George on January 29th in Medford, Oregon. She weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz, 21 inches long, and has lots of dark hair.
She had to be delivered C-section, but Emily is doing well. Unfortunately Berklee's heart valve has failed to shut, her blood is not being oxygenated, and she has pneumonia. Since she can't breathe on her own she is on a ventilator. As yet she has not had to have a transfusion (to replace all the blood they have drawn during testing) but it is a possibility, as is surgery if her heart valve doesn't shut in response to the medicine they gave her. She opened her eyes recently, but is otherwise not very alert. (Update: The medical staff is deliberately keeping her sedated and unstimulated because she pulls at her tubes when she is agitated.)
Shauna is flying out to be with the two older children so that Emily can spend time with Berklee in the hospital.
Prayers on her (and her family's) behalf would be greatly appreciated.

We just got the invite to this family blog and we're thrilled to stay in touch a little more with ya'all! We'll be moving back West in another 6 months when Scott finishes up his Orthodontic residency here in Jacksonville. If you want to know how to REALLY put together a party extraordinaire...Just call Shauna. She knows how to do it up right. Those who were lucky enough to come were treated to a beautiful sit-down, fancy shmancy dinner with lovely decorations and great company. I don't know where she found all those classy dinner guests, but I hope they come next year and bring their relatives. Wow. What a shindig! The entertainment was great with a slide show of lovely New Zealand and a play-by play provided by Jon and Sarah that really made us all want to jump on a plane and visit that island. Gorgeous as.... Yep! After the run down by the families, we sang a stunning rendition of Silent Night and ended the evening in prayer. Oh, if you didn't hear, Chad O. brought down his first Elk and he's a doozie.
